September 25, 2009

Plan Ireland is a wonderful organization dedicated to promoting childs rights to end child poverty.
Their newest campaign “Because I am a Girl” is truly special. This campaigns aim is to fight gender inequality, promote girls’ rights and lift millions of girls out of poverty.

I implore you to follow the links and learn more about this very worthy cause. There are many ways YOU can help.

To do my part,  all proceeds from every pair of Sprout Earrings sold in my shop will be donated to the Because I am a Girl campaign.

“Everything we shut our eyes to, everything we run away from, everything we deny, denigrate or despise, serves to defeat us in the end. What seems nasty, painful, evil, can become a source of beauty, joy, and strength, if faced with an open mind,” by Rigoberta Menchú Tum (1959-), Guatemalan social reformer, Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

Another Giveaway Update

September 15, 2009

For months I’ve been holding a competition to reach 100 fans in order to get my unique Facebook Fan page url.  When I reached 100 fans I was to pick a random fan to receive a pair of my earrings. Well, it seems that Facebook lowered the number of fans needed back to 25, instead of 100.  It would have been nice if this was announced, but it wasn’t and I’m not even entirely sure when exactly the limit was lowered. Nonetheless,  I suppose now it’s time to pick a winner! :P  By the way my custom url is now http://www.facebook.com/balancedcrafts.

So without further ado, the winner by random selection is… fan No. 49.

I will be contacting you for your address. Congratulations on your win and I hope that you love your new earrings!

Also, a sincere thank you to every one of my fans for your encouraging words and support. You are truly appreciated. :)

What can you do?

June 16, 2009

I was in Etsy chat today, as I often am :P, and in came this lovely lady who calls herself Sundancer. I’m not sure how the topic came up, but I saw her mention donations and the Susan G. Komen foundation. That was all I needed to hear. I butted into her conversation to inquire about how I might be able to help. A convo later and I’m proud to say I will be donating to her cause.

She is raising funds to participate in the Susan G. Komen 3 Day Walk in Seattle. If you are an artist and would like to donate a piece of artwork to their 3rd Annual Heart at Work Auction to be held at the beginning of August, please contact her at traci@bigforkbaycottonco.com.

I can’t always afford to donate money, but I have a surplus of items that I can part with. And as Traci (Sundancer) so beautifully  put it, “Why? Because everyone does deserve a lifetime.”

I wanna go!

Sweetheart of the week

May 9, 2009

You may remember a couple of weeks ago I held a giveaway?

Well, the winner, a lovely Ms. Joy of I made yarn at Etsy, received her prize today and gave me a great little review and  plug. {link}

She even posted a pic of herself wearing said prize and they look beautiful on her! I hardly ever get to see my pieces on customers after they buy and I just love it!

I thought that was the sweetest thing ever.

Thank you Joy. :)
