Artist Spot – Iris Design

For today’s Artist Spot we’re keeping it local!

Iris O’Connor is a very talented artist/photographer/mixed media artist based here in Dublin, Ireland.

She says about her work, “Creating something or painting or taking photographs has always been part of me and over the years I have experimented with a few different styles and techniques. I think I can say that for the moment I have found my ‘niche’ with photography and mixed media.  I especially like the term ‘mixed media’ as it can be anything you want it to be as long as you use a few ingredients together.”

I love it too! And I think you do a beautiful job Iris.

Circular Painting

Circular Painting from Fly on the Wall on Vimeo

The above film was produced by Fly on the Wall for Discovery Channel, South Africa. It is the combined artwork of Bryan Devlin, Luis Tolosana, Warren Lewis, Ree Treweek, Daniel Ting Chong, Mike Morocco, Toyah Moon Humphreys, Paul Ressel and Josh Ginsburg.

It’s a must see at the 40 second-mark, when it goes from controlled doodles to paint chaos — simply beautiful.

(This is a re-post , via Doodlers Anonymous, but I LOVE it so I had to post it so I always have reference to it.)

Artist Spot – Z-Beads

While browsing for beads, as I so often do, I came across these absolutely stunning handmade lampwork beads from Z-Beads, owned by Sarah Moran.

Now, I’ve seen many a lampwork bead, but these are without a doubt the most unique and colourful I’ve come across in a long time.

I especially love the story of how Sarah came to be such an amazing lampwork artist. It is inspiring and amusing. And of course you can’t help but love the quirky names she gives to each piece.

Stunning, right? I am simply in love with her designs and use of colours.

She works with soda-lime glass and borosilicate (Also known as “Pyrex”) and makes each piece by hand. She is truly gifted! Every bead is made one at a time, so no two are exactly alike. They are available for purchase through Ebay, “Superstars” and she also offers a Made To Order service from her website gallery.

Take a look around her site, you won’t be sorry!
