Artist Spot – Kathryn Dart

While going through my to-do list today, I noticed that I am still in need of several things if I am to attempt the one thing I’m really dying to try… encaustic painting.

I got my paints quite a while ago from this fabulous Etsy seller, Jaime Ribisi, who herself is a very talented and successful encaustic artist deserving of a post all her own. They are handmade, wonderful quality and in beautiful colours. I got my heatgun, brushes, tools, a few other basic things. But, I can’t for the life of me find an electric griddle pan anywhere on this stupid island. A used one, preferably. Anyone?

Anywho, it got me browsing encaustic artists and that is how I came upon Kathryn Dart, aka kbean on Etsy, and then I said to myself, “self, she would be perfect for your Artist Spot post”.

I just adore the depth and texture you get with wax. Oh please someone find me a griddle pan.

New Painting!

I finally snagged myself some time today to get a painting finished. It’s titled “Couch’s Kingbird”.  This extremely rare bird is found from southern Texas along the Gulf Coast to the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Couch’s Kingbird is virtually indistinguishable from the Tropical Kingbird, which occupies the same neotropical range, but the voices of the two differ consistently. To officially distinguish the species, vocalization would have to be heard.

I’m so excited!!

I finally got my invite for Spoonflower!

I couldn’t wait to try it out so I did this image up real quick. Already it looks like a fabric I would love to have!

Ah, the possibilities are endless! I’m going to be painting for a while.

I also was concerned about  shipping to Ireland, but it’s surprisingly much less than I thought it would be.

I am stoked.

New Painting

This is my newest creation. It’s inspired by the cutest little vintage owl figurine (a bank, actually) I ever did see.

And the figurine that inspired it…

I hope someone loves it as much as I do. :) It is available for purchase in my Imagekind shop.
